Museum of Oxford: Hidden Histories

Client: Museum of Oxford

• The Museum of Oxford (MOO) is run by Oxford City Council as a community museum and tourist attraction in the historic Victorian Town Hall, right in the centre of Oxford.

Project

• ‘The Hidden Histories Project’ is a major £2.9m HLF funded project to open up and share the heritage of the city’s communities through stories that radiate out from the Town Hall.
• The project includes expanding gallery space for permanent interpretation by 500%, the creation of a Museum Makers space, and an ambitious Activity Plan including youth participation projects and reminiscence training.

How we helped

• CCN worked with the MOO to develop a fundraising strategy for matched funding for the HLF project. This included applications to Trusts and Foundations, individual donors and company support.
• CCN worked with members of MOO staff to increase fundraising skills and mentored them through the fundraising process.
• CCN assisted MOO in founding a development trust to receive charitable income outside the City Council. CCN worked with City Council legal officers to devise a suitable structure for the Trust and assisted in recruitment of Trustees.
• CCN developed a case for support and reviewed all Trust and Foundation applications and gave guidance on follow up and second stage applications.
• CCN attended meetings with prospective individual donors and corporate partners.
• CCN assisted with planning for an online giving campaign ‘Adopt an Object’ which has proved very successful.
