Activity Plan support for Theatre Royal Wakefield

  • Theatre Royal Wakefield (TRW) is a 19th century theatre designed by Frank Matcham, run by the Wakefield Theatre Trust
  • Initially established as a ‘receiving house’, TRW now produces its own work as well as continuing to present work from other professional companies and host productions by amateur societies, schools and community groups
  • TRW has a strong community focus and an excellent education and participation service, with a particular strength in work with young people

 

Project: Theatre Royal Wakefield Restoration project

  • Major £2.6m restoration project encompassing the auditorium, front of house and stage floor of the theatre
  • New interpretation through the theatre, both fixed and activity based including volunteer guides
  • Innovative marketing and promotion including social media and web
  • Development of new audiences for heritage based activities and outreach

 

How we helped

  • Having secured a NLHF Round 1 pass TRW required mentoring and expert advice on the development and production of an Activity Plan to meet NLHF requirements
  • We advised on best practice comparators and helped brainstorm ideas for how to grow the current offer to include heritage learning and engagement
  • We helped the Trust think through how the history of the building and the social history that surrounds it could be interpreted and made available to new and existing audiences
  • We helped the Trust identify and consult with potential partners, plan for future audience development work and detail new activities
  • We worked with the marketing consultant to embed their work within the Plan
