Corinium Museum

Client: Corinium Museum

The Corinium Museum is located at the heart of Cirencester, the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’. The principal collection consists of the highly significant finds from the Roman town of Corinium. However, the museum today is much more than that, taking you on a journey through time and charting the development of the Cotswolds from its prehistoric landscape to the modern day.

Project

  • ‘Stone Age to Corinium’ is a major £1.3m HLF funded project. The aims are to create a museum that is more relevant to today’s communities, maximising on the building spaces, enhancing the visitor journey through reinterpretation and improved access, and working with new partners to produce a vibrant programme of archaeology related events and activities, which will help to make the museum more resilient and sustainable.to open up and share the heritage of the city’s communities through stories that radiate out from the Town Hall.
  • The project includes expanding gallery space for permanent interpretation by 500%, the creation of a Museum Makers space, and an ambitious Activity Plan including youth participation projects and reminiscence training.

How we helped

  • CCN worked with Corinium to develop a fundraising strategy for matched funding for the HLF project. This included applications to Trusts and Foundations, individual donors and company support.
  • CCN worked with The Director to increase fundraising skills and mentored her through the fundraising process.
  • CCN worked with a development group, made up of the Chairman of the Trust and selected Trustees to raise money from corporate and individual donors
  • CCN mentored the Director to equip her with fundraising skills which could then be utilised on an ongoing basis after the HLF project was completed.
  • CCN developed a case for support and reviewed all Trust and Foundation applications and gave guidance on follow up and second stage applications.
  • CCN attended meetings with prospective individual donors and corporate partners.
